In December 2017, the New York Times published a story about UFOs. As anyone might have guessed, this gave some fresh traction to a fascination that was mostly the realm of sci-fi entertainment and History Channel “documentaries.”

The paper reported on US Navy fighter pilot incidents from 2004 and 2014-15 and published two videos, labeled "FLIR" and "GIMBAL", purporting to show encounters with unusually shaped, fast-moving UFOs. These images and videos were captured forever by sophisticated instruments onboard F/A-18 jets from the aircraft carriers USS Nimitz and USS Theodore Roosevelt.

These incidents entered the cultural lexicon with the unforgettable name of “Tic Tac” because one of the Navy F/A-18 officers at first thought of a joke from the 1980 comedy film Airplane! to describe the infrared images he was tracking.

Who knew that five years later we'd be watching congressional hearings with military whistleblowers and new government agencies, like AARO, investigating "anomalous" sightings, mysterious evidence claims, and secret “black” projects that were hiding proof of supposed aliens and their spacecrafts?
